Greetings AWS Partners,

NYC Emergency Management continues to closely monitor Hurricane Joaquin and has put extensive plans in place to deal with the possible effects of the storm on New York City. The latest National Hurricane Center forecast track has Hurricane Joaquin passing well off the eastern coast of the United States through early next week. The current forecast shows no direct impact to New York City.

"The forecast confidence in Hurricane Joaquin maintaining an offshore track continues to increase. Although we are not expecting direct impacts from Joaquin, fringe effects including high surf, beach erosion and minor tidal flooding remain possible even with the storm passing offshore," said Gary Conte, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service's New York Forecast Office.

As a result, NYC Emergency Management is adjusting its emergency plans regarding opening shelters and conducting possible evacuations to match the forecast. NYC Emergency Management will continue to have enhanced staffing in place to respond or preempt any potential impacts.

Please continue to monitor Notify NYC and local media for the latest information. For more information on the storm's track, and the latest forecast, please visit the National Hurricane Center's website at www.nhc.noaa.gov, or the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov/nyc.

Please share this information with your clients and staff. Report downed branches and power outage-related issues by calling 311.
