NYC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7PM ON 1/28 TO 7PM ON 1/29

The Advance Warning System (AWS) disseminates information to people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs through their service providers. WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST SATURDAY.

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 11 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Near blizzard conditions are possible for a period on Saturday.

Impacts: Travel will become be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Extreme Temperatures: A combination of gusty winds and arctic air will produce wind chills below zero during the day tomorrow through Sunday morning.

Hazards: Frostbite and hypothermia may occur with prolonged exposure without proper clothing.

Travel: LIRR trains will be suspended at 8AM on Saturday, 1/29

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Before an outage

  • Charge cell phones
  • Gather supplies
  • Turn refrigerator/freezers to a colder setting

During an outage

  • Stay clear of downed power lines
  • Turn off all appliances
  • Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage
  • Do not use generators indoors
  • If you have a disability/access needs or use life sustaining equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, dial 911.
